DavidTomaloff: Matador to Troubadour

The latest in a life-long line of artful self re-inventions finds singer/songwriter, David Tomaloff, many miles from the smash-and-grab retro-fused rocknroll that put his previous outfit, The Dammitheads, on the independent map.

This most recent musical incarnation finds Tomaloff immersed in an ardent blend of Americana, Roots, and Folk Rock, attempting to answer his own musical quagmire: "What is the hardest, loudest thing a muso can do in this fast-paced age of noise and angst?" His answer: "To play for the sake of the song…minus the pomp and din."

One needn’t look much further than a verse or two of vintage Cash or Dylan to find authentication in that realization. And while the trademarked, edgy wall of sound may have been set aside for the time being, Tomaloff remains a stout disciple of the school of Keef. This doctrine continues intact and is still quite evident in a more traditional form of blues and country-rock.

As for the new direction: "It's just a changing of the guard," says Tomaloff, "I’m proud of all we have accomplished with the Dammitheads but it’s important to be able to find meaning in what you do. Sometimes it becomes necessary to renew that and follow it down. Right now, I want to be able to break it back down into soil and stand in the shoes of the great troubadours.”
